old city jerusalem...interesting and diverse...

one weekend i visited jerusalem and
was able to meet and spend time with
donnovan and elana graber

elena and i overlooking the western wall
in the jewish quarter of the old city...

the western (wailing) wall

young orthodox boys run ahead of their older brothers
as they come back from praying at the wall...

the arab quarter of the old city was very busy
as it is during the muslim holy month of ramadan
when for a whole month muslims are required to
fast all day and only eat at night...

buses line the streets bringing muslims from other
cities to the mosque in jerusalem to pray...

walking through the arab quarter of the
old city at night...

after prayers, people flood the streets of the
arab quarter of the old city...

muslim holy men talking with young
men sitting in the plaza...

elena and i overlooking the kidron valley...

down in the kidron valley
(below old city jerusalem)
looking up at the highest corner of the
old city walls...

it is believed that it is from this corner that
satan tempted jesus to jump, as it is the highest
place on the old city walls...

elena and i standing on a tomb in the kidron valley...

now on the other side of the valley,
behind us is the golden gate of the old city...

at this time the golden gate is sealed closed,
but it will be the gate by which the Messiah
will enter at His return...
christian graves in the kidron valley,
below the golden gate...

some believe that those closest to the golden gate
will be the first to ressurect at the return of the Messiah

repair men on top of the golden gate...

police blocking a road
(i'm not for sure why...)

a street in the old city...arab quarter...

another old city street...

an ancient roman game still visible
carved into the floor stones...

up on top of a hotel, we can look down
at the activity in the street below...

elena and i on the roof of the hotel,
very close to the muslim dome of the rock mosque...

israeli settlers who managed to purchase this building
in the arab quarter of the old city
have posted guards at all times
to ensure their safety...

another roof-top sight -
wash hung out to dry...

a palestinian mother and daughters
sell herbs and spices along the street...
